Poetry in action in Pre-Prep

‘In celebrating World Poetry Day, March 21, we recognise the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind.’ United Nations World Poetry Day
Our Pre-Prep pupils were immersed in creative writing this week by reading and listening to great poetry which inspired many to create their own.
In Reception the children wrote wonderful poems about farm animals linking in with their animal topic.

Our Year 1 class have been getting creative by making up their own actions to a poem and wrote and performed their own versions of ‘Row, row, row the boat’ as part of their English lesson. The children used beautiful expression and hand actions to make their rhymes come to life.

In Year 2 we have enjoyed reading and listening to poems. The children enjoyed watching Michael Rosen perform some of his poems and understand that poems can be shared through reading aloud and being performed. The children looked at a variety of poems and then chose one to perform to their friends developing their speaking and listening skills. They have also developed their reading comprehension skills using poems.
