Pupils use VR to fly drones

Among our scores of Activities on offer here at Langley Senior School, there is a popular club called Airgineers. It allows our budding young engineers to take to the air and use incredible FPV (First Person View) video equipment.

FPV technology allows pilots to control a craft using a live video feed sent from a camera on the drone and received through a set of FPV goggles. This gives the pilot a truly immersive experience like they are sitting in the cockpit.

After first learning to assemble a collection of electronic components into a working drone, Year 10 pupils have honed their piloting skills on a computer-based simulator before putting on a FPV headset and flying one for real!

FPV drone racing is ever increasing in popularity, and we hope to eventually have our own team to compete against other schools in the country.

Take a look at the gallery below to see them in action.
