Apprenticeships, Gap Years and more

Langley Sixth Form prepares our students for any aspect of outside world. Whilst university has often been the ‘traditional’ pathway, that is changing all of the time and over the last five years we have seen a swing towards thinking about other future prospects, be it Apprenticeships, Gap Year opportunities, the job market or oherwise.

With this week being National Apprenticeships week, why don’t you check out what is available at the moment. Via Unifrog and the guidance provided by our Head of Careers, Mr Claydon, students are provided with the ability to see what Apprenticeships are available daily across the whole country; this coupled with talks from ex-students and specialists in the field means that Langley Sixth Formers are kept informed.

With Gap Years, we try to engage students in thinking carefully about Purpose, Placement and Preparedness. Long gone are the adventures to the Far East to find oneself; now students are heading into the world with the tools to find work, add value to their future or with work already organised, be it in a school, with an organisation or volunteer organisation. Take a look at the links below for some of the opportunities that Sixth Formers are made aware of.

Regarding other pathways, Mr Claydon is always happy to book an appointment with a member of the Sixth Form, or any year group, to discuss their plans, offer advice on the creation of a CV or Covering letter and provide help or guidance.

Finally, we try to ‘skill-up’ our Sixth Formers, so they are world-ready. Look out for the talks in Assembly and in PSHE sessions, as well as encouraging everyone to take part in ‘Vicky’s cooking challenge’; many more opportunities to self-improve will come over the coming months.
