Year 3 Egyptian Day

As part of their Ancient Egyptian Topic, Year 3 travelled back in time to experience life as an Ancient Egyptian.

The day started with a Harry Burton photo presentation, who took the photos after the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Then, pupils were shown how to write like a scribe, which was a valued role in Ancient Egypt. They had to write and decipher the hieroglyphics to crack the secret code.

Afterwards, pupils learnt about the process of Mummification and one of them was even prepared for burial like the Pharaohs of old. They also learnt about the typical foods the Egyptians would eat, and designed a menu for a feast. Honey and Date cake sounds delicious!

Finally, pupils heard about the Pharaoh’s journey on the path to the Afterlife. Our ‘Pharaoh’ had to dodge snakes, crocodiles and have their heart weighed against the Feather of Truth. Luckily, they passed the test and could enter the Afterlife!

A fun-filled day for all in the Egyptian (Taverham) sun!
