Forest School

Within Langley Prep School’s 70 acre site, you will discover ancient woodland and the home of our fabulous Forest School. From Early Years upwards, children love learning in the outdoor classroom and putting the pizza oven to good use. Inspectors also describe the surrounding parkland as a ‘paradise for pupils.’  [ISI]

Children relish opportunities to get messy, make noise, offer ideas and explore all year round. Their social skills flourish, as independence and motivation increase. Structured tasks and achievable goals build self-confidence and encourage teamwork, while National Curriculum subjects are reinforced by the hands-on learning of the Forest School. Inspectors recognise this and say specifically about Langley Prep School, ‘The curriculum is significantly enhanced by sessions in the Forest School.’  [ISI]

Supportive research

‘Learning outside the classroom contributed significantly to raising standards and improving pupils’ personal, social and emotional development.’ [Ofsted]

‘Research shows that children experience profound and diverse benefits through regular contact with nature. Contact with the wild improves children’s wellbeing, motivation and confidence. The data also highlights how children’s experiences in and around the natural world led to better relationships with their teachers and class-mates.’  [The Wildlife Trust]
