Pupils tackle Junior Maths comp

Junior Maths comp iiiAll of the pupils in Years 6 and 7 at Langley Senior School spent the morning taking part in our Junior Mathematics Competition. They competed in teams to answer as many puzzles as they could for some prizes at the end. The emphasis of the competition was on building the pupils’ thinking skills, communication, confidence and perseverance while they tried to tackle a wide range of Mathematical based problems. It was fantastic to see our pupils talk passionately about their Mathematics and refusing to give up when faced with a particularly challenging question, and even wanting to continue into their break time!

The pupils really enjoyed the opportunity and are looking forward to next year’s competition – we are hoping to ask the pupils in the Prep School to join us next year as well. The questions covered a wide variety of skills, which pupils are welcome to try at home, for example: trying to put on a chessboard 8 queens so that none of the pieces are in the same row, column or diagonal or trying to find the largest numerical product from a selection of numbers whose sum is 12. Let us know on social media how you get on!
