Staff feature – Mr Appleby

Currently at our Senior School, Mr Appleby moves in September 2021 to join the Prep School staff body, having been successfully appointed as Teacher of Science, with Head of Science responsibility.

Alex FIWhat is your fondest memory of school?
My fondest memory would have to be a Biology trip to the Lake District where we spent a week wading through rivers, looking at wildlife and catching butterflies.

During your school years, what was your biggest achievement?
Finishing my A level design project, a laser cut wine rack. (Countless hours of painful progress!)

Why did you decide to become a teacher?
In my third year of university I did a science communication module which was my favorite part of my degree and hooked me on becoming an educator.

How would you describe it here at Langley?
A very welcoming environment that has allowed me to integrate very quickly.

What is the highlight of your teaching career so far?
The Duke of Edinburgh expedition with Year 9.

Is there a teacher that stands out for you?
Dr Munday who is the current Head of Biology at Langley Senior School.

What do you like to do outside of work when you’re not teaching?
I enjoy hiking and reading.

What advice would you yourself give to pupils?
Make the most of the opportunities you are given in school!
