Pre-Prep Curricular

Reception, Year 1 and 2

In Pre-Prep we encourage our children to become independent, committed and enthusiastic learners by providing them with a wide range of interesting and challenging activities.

From the very beginning, all Pre-Prep pupils attend morning assemblies, which provide opportunities for spiritual, moral and PSHEE learning. In every classroom, we have interactive whiteboards to enhance the learning experience and stimulate young minds. Outside in our 100 acres of grounds, our Outdoor Learning Centre allows us to offer all our children a very adventurous and challenging learning experience. Specific topics in Reception include looking at the seasons, farming, birds and sea life.

Drama is another important part of the Pre-Prep curriculum and all children are encouraged to become confident performers; they take part in plays, class assemblies, house competitions and music concerts.

Pre-Prep children have one session per week of physical activity and also swim once a week in our on-site indoor swimming pool, taking part in the ASA swimming award, which is a Nationally accredited programme. In the summer, all Pre-Prep children participate in Sports Day and a Swimming Gala too.

Year 1 and 2 children follow the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and have daily numeracy and literacy lessons. Topics range from transport to the weather and from the Great fire of London to life and work in Victorian times. Children also receive tuition in Music, Dance, PE, French and Computing. At the end of the Trinity term, parents are invited to a French breakfast with our Year 2 children!

In addition to swimming, pupils have sessions in our Sports Hall with a qualified sports coach, participating in activities such as circuit training, unihoc, short tennis, cricket and general ball skills.
