Verse Speaking Competition 2022 

60 pupils from Years 3 to 8 were involved in Langleys annual Verse Speaking Competition on Thursday 12th May.

All pupils performed a poem in their English lesson in the weeks preceding the event. Individual class teachers then chose the finalists and encouraged them to learn their poem and perform it in front of parents and pupils to practice for the competition.

All the children performed brilliantly, and the audience was very impressed by their confidence and dramatic interpretations. Mr Crossley was invited to judge, and he was very encouraged by the standard of each performance. He certainly found it a challenge to choose the winners!

Pupils watching were treated to a great variety of poets and entertaining performances. This will help Langley pupils to improve their performances for next year.

Year 3 – Freya S

Year 5 – Isobel S 

Year 6 – Amy T 

Year 7 – Millie J  

Year 8 – Jack B  

The overall winners were: 

Junior Winner – Eva S 

Senior Winner – Amy T 

The event was a great success, and we look forward to repeating it next year. Well done to all the participants for a delightful and entertaining morning of poetry.
