Verse Speaking Competition 2023

We held our annual Verse Speaking Competition on the 27th and 28th of February and approximately 70 children from Years 3 to 8 were involved. In the weeks preceding the event, all our pupils performed a poem in their English lesson and the teacher then chose the finalists who were encouraged to learn their poem and perform it in front of parents and pupils.

All the children performed brilliantly and the audience was very impressed by their confidence and dramatic interpretations. Mr Hyatt and Mr Perriss were invited to judge and they were very encouraged by the standard of each performance. They certainly found it a challenge and we are very grateful for their expertise. The pupils were treated to such a great variety of poets and entertaining performances and some of them even performed their own poems. I am sure this event will help the children to improve their own performances for next year.

Junior Winner – Benjamin

Senior Winner – Rory

The event was a great success and we look forward to repeating it next year. Well done to all the participants for a very enjoyable and entertaining morning of poetry. Your teachers are very proud of you!
