10th Annual Balloon Debate at Langley School

During the Trinity Term, we were delighted to host our 10th annual Balloon Debate here at Langley School.

Organised by our wonderful English department, our year 6 pupils from both Prep and Senior came together to deliver persuasive speeches and present their projects in the ballroom. The Balloon Debate is an event designed to challenge pupils to research a historical figure in depth and then argue why that person deserves a space onboard a metaphorical hot air balloon.

The debate saw our students adorn some fantastic costumes and deliver a range impressive research projects. Judged by a panel of staff, students and guests, the Balloon Debate enabled the pupils to develop their public speaking skills and the ability to independently study topics that interest them.

This was also a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to support their peers, as a handful of the pupils bravely approached the podium to argue why their historical figure deserved to remain in the hot air balloon.
