Family-centred support.
At Langley, we treat every child as an individual. We recognise that many pupils need some extra assistance. Sometimes this is because they have a recognised SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) need, and sometimes it is because they have a more minor learning issue in one subject area. We are well-equipped to meet a variety of learning needs.
We pride ourselves on the provision of a supportive educational environment for all pupils, and our small class sizes and tailored teaching plans contribute to the positive learning environment our pupils enjoy. Our curriculum further enhances this positive environment; the breadth of choice offered ensures that every pupil will find something in which they excel. This strengthens confidence and resilience, and helps pupils overcome challenges in other areas.
Langley employs an expert Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) on both school sites, as well as a team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs). The team uses various programmes and resources to support children, either on an individual basis or in small groups. Our aim is to fulfil our commitment to inclusive education, ensuring that everyone at Langley fulfils their potential. Our framework follows the SEND Code of Practice, with four pillars: Assess, Plan, Do, and Review. Our SENCO is completely integrated into the school community, working closely with our teachers to support adaptations of teaching methods according to pupils’ needs.
Our approach in this area is child and family-centred. We work with both parents and pupils in the decision-making process and communicate regularly about any changes at home or at school that might be impacting your child. Where needed, we will also work with external agencies to make sure needs are met.
We work to keep our knowledge of national and local policy current and have strong relationships with the relevant local authorities. As part of our drive to deliver excellence, we conduct regular SEND training across all staff. When it comes to exam time, our SENCO is trained to complete assessments for exam access arrangements.
Our approach ensures that all pupils receive an education that promotes high standards and fulfilment of potential, enabling every pupil to achieve their best and make the most of all of the opportunities we offer, both inside and outside of the classroom.
“Our approach ensures that all pupils receive an education that promotes high standards and fulfilment of potential, enabling every pupil to achieve their best and become confident individuals.”
