Life in Prep

Small class sizes are a key feature for our Year 3 to Year 8 pupils in the Prep School, allowing us to offer that personalised learning we’re known for. We set targets, monitor progress and stretch our pupils every day.

Our rich, vibrant and broad curriculum offers opportunities to use higher-order thinking skills and to take part in masterclasses, clubs and competitions. We also run The Wensum Award, which follows a holistic approach and is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme, helping to develop life skills, well-being best practice and cultural capital.

In the Prep School, our Growth Mindset ethos helps pupils develop key 21st century soft skills, while being guided through the curriculum by subject specialist and Form Tutors. Our extensive wellbeing provision includes a ‘Time 4 U’ room, weekly assembly programme and – on hand every day – resident well-being dog, Honey, who is much-loved.

With 100 acres and some of the county’s finest sporting facilities, pupils enjoy cricket and athletics in the summer, plus rugby, hockey, netball and cross-country in the winter.

But there are special moments that happen away from the classroom and sports fields… we love seeing faces light up as a child catches their first fish on the river that we have private access to; we love watching Year 3s look up to the Year 8s, who take the little ones under their wing during our mentoring programme; we love hearing singing through the corridors and laughter in the dining hall.
