From flora and fauna to campfires and cooking.
Within Langley Prep School’s impressive 100-acre grounds, amongst the ancient woodland, is the home of our fabulous Outdoor Learning Centre.
Complete with outside classroom and mud hut shelter, and even a pizza oven, the surrounding parkland has been described by Inspectors as “paradise for pupils”. [ISI]
Children delight in opportunities to get messy, make noise, offer ideas and explore the world around them. Through outdoor learning, our pupils develop an appreciation of nature which develops emotional well-being. Their social skills and independence are allowed to flourish through pupil-led tasks and achievable goals, which foster self-confidence and encourage teamwork. National Curriculum subjects are reinforced by the hands-on learning of our Outdoor Learning Centre.
“Engagement with the outdoor environment is carefully planned to develop pupils’ appreciation of the non-material aspects of life. Through outdoor learning…pupils foster self-knowledge and emotional wellbeing.”

“Research shows that children experience profound and diverse benefits through regular contact with nature. Contact with the wild improves children’s wellbeing, motivation and confidence. The data also highlights how children’s experiences in and around the natural world led to better relationships with their teachers and class-mates.”
