Play-based learning sees little ones excel.
The time that your child becomes school-age is a special one. Choosing Reception in the nurturing environment at Langley Pre-Prep will see your child thrive in that vitally important 4- to 5-year-old stage.
Our Reception class is all about play-based learning. Not just directing from the front of the class, our teachers sit with the children and help guide their development through play. There is thought behind everything they do, with objective-led plans for each individual child in our care.
We use a technique of short, teacher-focussed sessions for Maths and English, which intersperse the school day in Reception. We also follow two key theorists when it comes to our approach to learning and development:
Alistair Bryce-Clegg – his theory champions child-led learning, and advocates for environments that support play-based exploration and development rather than rigid, topic-driven instruction
Greg Bottrill – central to his theory is the importance of creating environments where children can discover and learn at their own pace through the “3Ms”: Making conversation, Mark Making and Mathematics
Our approach is supported by the great outdoors, and our Outdoor Learning Centre is where some of the most wonderful play-based learning comes to life during the children’s weekly sessions. Of course, just like all children in Pre-Prep, our Reception children have full access to the school’s incredible grounds and facilities, including weekly lessons in our indoor heated swimming pool.
