The Arts At Senior

Our Art courses are all about exploring ideas, conveying experiences and responding to themes or issues of personal significance. It is about creativity and expression in equal measure. At GCSE, the subject incorporates Design and, at A Level, Fine Art is made into a completely tailored experience by the student, as they decide on their subject and focus.

Our purpose-built drama studio offers rehearsal and teaching space. Both the Music and Drama Departments have a thriving extra-curricular programme that opens doors for so many of our pupils. The annual whole-school drama production is hotly anticipated each year, filling our performance hall for multiple dates.

Music is an evolving subject where, today, technology plays an increasing role. That’s why, while there is emphasis on theory and practice, our department’s specialist teaching rooms include an ICT area that has specific music and recording software.

Specialist Visiting Music Teachers also visit us weekly, for one-to-one teaching of instruments. For groups, our ensembles include Choir, Chamber Choir, Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Rock Band, plus many more. Events include soirees in the Ballroom, the annual Carol Service and Summer Concert. The annual House Music competition is eagerly prepared for each year, with everyone vying for the title.

This highly creative, hands-on subject is extremely popular at GCSE and A Level. Photography is about visual communication as well as personal expression. The skills to capture, portray and express are expertly taught during our well-resourced Photography courses.
