Opportunities around every corner.
We provide a variety of opportunities to enable pupils to develop talent and fulfil ambition, be this playing on the sports pitches, exploring our great outdoors, taking to the stage, or revving up on the racetrack.
From Monday to Thursday, the final lesson of the day is an Enrichment session. Each term, pupils and students choose from more than 80 options, from Science specialisms to Fantasy Share Trading. Pupils can try new things, develop passions and broaden their horizons. Every lunchtime, we also run various activities, from our Languages Library and Women in STEM, to an Eco Club and Coding Club. Debating, Medical Science and Model United Nations are additional co-curricular options.
Our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is run by ex-service personnel and teachers at Langley. Pupils can choose to join the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force sections, and cadets develop adaptability, resilience and confidence through trips and courses such as Cadet Leadership, Navigation, First Aid and Survival Training trips to Dartmoor and Stamford Training Area. CCF starts in Year 9, alongside the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Both options can go beyond this introductory year, with many pupils continuing both throughout their school career.
Each year, through the Design & Technology Department, pupils form a team to develop the Langley Lightning F24 kit car. Thanks to the year-on-year success, we have a long-standing record of attending the Greenpower-organised Hethel Heat racetrack events, sponsored by Lotus. The closed-season developments, pre-race preparation, event-day racing and camaraderie make each Langley Lightning team a special one.
Langley is renowned for being a strong sporting school. Sport is also a popular academic subject among our pupils, with many pupils choosing to study PE at GCSE, and as a BTEC in Sixth Form. Pupils and students have five hours of Games per fortnight (six hours per fortnight in Year 9). We also offer Athletic Development sessions and Small Group Sport sessions during lunchtimes, as well as a range of sports during the Enrichment programme. House Sport competitions are eagerly anticipated each year, with annual whole-school competitions in Cross-Country and Indoor Rowing, plus Sports Day.
MUN events recreate real-life diplomatic summits to discuss, debate and negotiate Bills, Acts and global issues. At the start of 2020, twelve Langley students travelled to Wycombe Abbey for a three-day MUN conference, developing leadership and cultural empathy. We ranked 1st and 4th for the best interviews in the Security Council.
