Langley In The Community

We are stronger together.

We create our own community, but we also share our space with the community. Our pupils and teachers are also engaged in a number of initiatives within the local community.

Usage of our space

Our space is shared with a number of local schools and groups. We host a dance company, Funky Feet School of Dance, and we regularly open the doors of our Alston Centre performing arts space for local arts companies to rehearse and perform. We have hosted concerts, weddings and private dinners in our historic houses. We’ve even held outdoor cinema events! The children’s play scheme Barracudas operates out of our Prep School facilities in school holidays. Our swimming pool at the Prep School site in Taverham is incredibly popular with the local community. We also open our Forest School to the community on occasion, supporting children in outdoor adventures: climbing, building dens and learning to build a campfire.

If you run a club and are interested in the facilities we have to offer, please find out more here.

Outreach

We enjoy strong links with schools in our local area. We deliver teaching sessions to local primary and secondary schools in subjects such as Biology and Design and Technology.

Our staff also go out to local schools to deliver hands-on coaching in sports such as hockey.

Our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) unit takes part in the local Remembrance Parade, offering our pupils an opportunity to engage with other units and veterans.

We also encourage our pupils to visit nursing homes in the area to sing and perform for them. Our pupils love spending time with the residents.

Charity

Our pupils are very involved in charitable enterprises. We encourage our pupils to identify causes that they wish to support. Our older year groups engage in running fundraising campaigns, which gives them useful experience in communication and persuasion! An example of pupil-led fundraising efforts this year has been the charity Little Lifts. Little Lifts supports patients with breast cancer, sending them gift boxes to support them through surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Our Lower Sixth group set up a giving page online and took part in the Great Norfolk Ice Cream Challenge (spearheaded by Nelsonspirit, our scholarship partner) at the Norfolk Show, doubling their original fundraising target.

The school also ran a fundraising initiative for the Bone Cancer Research Trust in Trinity Term. The challenge was to dress in orange and it was organised by one of our Upper Sixth students.

Charitable endeavours begin at the youngest end of the school. Our Pre-Prep children have raised money for RSPCA this year, and also took part in the Colour Run at Taverham High School. One of our pupils took on a 1000km running challenge this year in support of Action for Children, a phenomenal achievement.

We hosted law firm Birketts as they competed in a charity netball competition in support of East Anglian Air Ambulance. Also in support of the same charity, former and current Langley staff took part in a “Trek 24” walking challenge – a 24km coastal hike.
