Life in Pre-Prep

At Langley Pre-Prep School, children are encouraged to learn through purposeful play, exploration and discovery.

Our small classes allow teachers to understand each child’s individual interests, strengths and needs. This means children receive the right balance of encouragement, support and challenge from the moment they join us.

Interactive classroom technology helps bring learning to life, but education at Langley reaches far beyond the classroom. Across our extensive grounds and in our dedicated Outdoor Learning Centre, children can build dens and shelters, gather around campfires, investigate minibeasts and develop their natural curiosity about the world.

These are often the moments when a new interest appears, a child’s confidence grows or something suddenly makes sense.

Every child in Pre-Prep benefits from daily English and Maths, alongside a broad and enriching curriculum designed to inspire different interests and abilities.

Our status as an independent Pre-Prep school gives us the freedom to offer an exceptional variety of subjects and experiences, including Art, Dance and Drama, Computing (Year 1 and 2), English, French, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Maths, Music, Outdoor Learning, PE, Science, Swimming and Technology.

Mornings focus on core skills, including daily reading, while afternoons take a more topic-based, creative and practical approach.

Specialist teaching, outdoor education, sport, languages and the arts help children understand that learning can happen anywhere. Whether they are solving a problem, performing on stage, swimming with growing confidence or exploring our ancient woodland, every child has opportunities to discover what excites them.

Parents also talk about the level of support that their child gets, and the close community between staff, parents and children. They describe their children as “more independent” as they move into Reception and beyond. Parents have seen their child “flourish” at Langley and, for us, that is the ultimate reward.

The Pre-Prep years are a vital stage in a child’s development. They are a time of rapid growth, discovery and growing independence, which is why we believe a truly well-balanced education should nurture every aspect of a child’s potential.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our rich programme supports physical development through swimming, athletics, ball skills, competitive events, and music and movement sessions. Alongside sport, children are encouraged to explore the arts, developing creativity, confidence and self-expression.

A varied programme of after-school hobbies also gives children the freedom to discover new interests, build skills and find activities they genuinely enjoy.

By combining academic learning with sport, creativity and personal development, we give every child the strong foundations they need to flourish, both now and in the years ahead.

Across our 100-acre grounds, every corner becomes a place to explore, discover and grow. From pond dipping and den building to growing produce, outdoor cooking and learning from our own beehive, children develop curiosity, confidence, practical skills and a strong connection with nature.
