Castle Acre trip for Prep pupils

3rd October 2023

Year 5 had the pleasure of travelling to Castle Acre as part of their Geography ‘settlement’ topic.

First port of call was the castle itself, where pupils observed the magnificent earthworks and ruined keep, which began the process of settlement at the site. “I think the pupils were rather taken with the place and found the various nooks and crannies immensely interesting. The notion that the motte was man-made really excited them,” said Mr Thornett, Head of Geography at the Prep School.

The group toured the modern-day village and its facilities, noting how well-served it was for those who lived there, and also the Priory ruins. the day finished with a picnic in full view of the motte and castle keep.

Mr Thornett added, “The pupils were super ambassadors for the School, courteous of the public and the surrounding environment. They really engaged with the purpose of the trip and the activities, and will now be reflecting on what they learned in their upcoming Geography lessons.”

Thanks to Mr Thornett for leading the trip, and to Miss Cameron, Mr Appleby and Mr Sayer for their support and time.
