Celebrating Mental Health Week at Langley Prep School

Last week, Langley Prep School proudly concluded its activities for Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week with an engaging whole-school well-being walk. This year the Place2Be initiative explored the theme “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself” in partnership with Here4You.

On the final day, our pupils and dedicated staff braved the chilly weather for their well-being walk, creating a wonderful procession across our picturesque grounds. This event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health and taking time for self-care. The children were encouraged to “dress to express”, allowing them to wear clothing that is special to them. From our youngest learners in Bluebell Nursery to our Year 8 students, each member of our school community participated in this uplifting experience.

Throughout the week, our focus on well-being extended into classroom activities as we embraced a variety of activities designed to foster mindfulness and joy. From yoga sessions to creative arts, our pupils enjoyed a range of inclusive experiences that promoted emotional wellness.

We kicked off the week with a calming mindfulness yoga session, accompanied by soothing harp music, where students learned fundamental poses and breathing techniques.

In our Year 1 class, our Pre-Prep pupils were busy making ‘worry dolls’ as part of their Mental Health Week activities, which linked to their toys and games curriculum. They explored the concept of toys from around the world, crafting dolls inspired by the traditions of children in Guatemala. In addition to this, they expressed their individuality by designing flags that represent their personalities.

At Langley Prep School, we believe in nurturing mental health and well-being, and this week was a wonderful way to reinforce that message within our community. We look forward to continuing to support our pupils on their journey to a balanced and fulfilling life.
