Charting New Courses: Reflections from the new Head

12th March 2025

Blog 1

We are delighted to launch a brand new blog series, Get to know the new Head, in which our incoming Head of Prep Mrs Rackham will talk about topics ranging from well-being to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Mrs Rackham joins the Langley community in September 2025, and we will get to know her philosophy and vision in the coming weeks and months before she is formally in post. For now, we will hand straight over to Mrs Rackham, for her first Langley blog post.

Stepping into the role of Head of Langley Prep School, I am filled with both excitement and a deep sense of responsibility. Langley Prep has a rich history, a beautiful setting and a strong sense of community. While I bring my own ideas for growth, I firmly believe that our vision for the future should be shaped by the voices of staff, parents, governors, and, most importantly, the Prep children themselves.

Building on our strengths will be key – continuing to develop our arts, sports and outdoor learning programmes while also exploring new, innovative approaches that remain true to our values and heritage. Our goal is to prepare children for the opportunities and challenges of the future, ensuring they are world-ready when the time comes.

Above all, childhood should be cherished. At Langley Prep, children must have the freedom to imagine, create, explore and enjoy learning. For us, success will not only be measured by academic achievement, but also by the development of well-rounded individuals who are confident, resilient and ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Looking ahead, the vision for Langley Prep will not be mine alone. It will be a shared endeavour, reflective of the ideas, values and aspirations of everyone who contributes to its success. I look forward to listening, learning and working together.

In the meantime, my family and I are eagerly preparing for our move from Surrey to Norfolk. My children already have their taster days booked at the Prep and Senior Schools, and my husband, having grown up in East Anglia and having served in the Royal Anglian Regiment, is excited to be returning. With my parents also based in Norfolk and thrilled that we will be close by, we are looking forward to settling in and embarking on this new chapter.
