Evelyn’s Journey at Langley: Embracing Every Opportunity

When Evelyn looks back on her time at Langley, three words come to mind: memorable, enriching and life‑changing. And it’s easy to see why. Her Sixth Form experience has been defined by leadership, adventure, and a willingness to seize every opportunity that came her way.

Leading with Spirit and Purpose

One of Evelyn’s proudest achievements is earning her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, a testament to her resilience and determination. But it’s her work beyond the award that truly captures her spirit.

Evelyn helped organise and run Langley’s annual Women’s Empowerment event, bringing together more than 200 young women and 25 female leaders from industries as varied as athletics, aviation, policing, economics, dance, catering, the armed forces, agriculture and midwifery.

The theme – “A woman’s place is everywhere” – resonated deeply with her. The event has become such a defining part of her Langley experience that she hopes to take the concept with her to America during her exchange year.

Building Her Confidence

Public speaking has become a cornerstone of Evelyn’s confidence.

Through debating, events such as the Women’s Empowerment and open days, she has spoken to audiences big and small – and loved every moment. “It’s been invaluable,” she says.

“Getting feedback, growing, and realising I can speak to any group of people with confidence.”

Thriving Through Adventure and Responsibility

Evelyn’s favourite enrichment activity has been CCF, where she co-leads the Navy section. Combined with her experience in Sea Cadets, it’s given her a sense of discipline, teamwork and adventure that she’ll carry with her long after she leaves Langley.

She’s the first to admit she has thrown herself into everything the school has offered. Her advice to her younger self is simple: “Take every opportunity thrown at you.

A School That Feels Like Family

Before joining Langley, Evelyn attended a large comprehensive school. Despite Langley having bigger grounds, the community feels the opposite – small, warm and close-knit.

It’s bigger in space, but never daunting,” she explains. “It’s less of a school and more of a family. You walk through the grounds and everyone knows your name. People genuinely care.

From house events to mentoring younger pupils, she has felt part of a community where every student is seen and supported.

Boarding: One Big Family

As a boarder, Evelyn has experienced a unique side of Langley life. She admits that being away from home means missing the occasional milestone, but the boarding community makes up for it in its own special way.

“It’s like one massive sleepover with your siblings,” she laughs.

Her favourite boarding tradition? Sunday brunch – especially the avocado on toast and banana bread.

“We celebrate everything together. The friendships you form in the house carry into school life.”

Evelyn

Support that Makes All the Difference

When asked what she’ll miss most, Evelyn doesn’t hesitate: Mr Sitch, Head of Sixth Form.

He creates such a supportive environment. Even though he’s always busy, he takes the time to know every student individually.”

Her advice for future Head Girls and Head Boys reflects this: “Look after yourself. Give it your all but ask for help when you need it.

What’s Next: From Norfolk to Indiana

Evelyn’s next chapter is already taking shape. She has been awarded a prestigious place on the ESU Secondary School Exchange Programme, earning a scholarship to study at Culver Academies in Indiana, USA.

There, she’ll spend a year sharing British culture with American students – and learning from theirs in return. It’s an opportunity she’s ready for, shaped by the confidence, independence and curiosity she has developed throughout her school journey.

Evelyn’s experience reflects what so many pupils value at Langley – a place where students are known as individuals and supported to flourish. We are so proud of everything Evelyn has achieved during her time at Langley and can’t wait to see where her ambition and spirit take her next.
