12th November 2024
A moving series of Remembrance Services involved all areas of Langley School as the community came together throughout the weekend.
Our Prep School’s Remembrance Service was held on Friday 9th November at St Edmund’s Church in Taverham, where the school’s Magna Voce and Junior Choirs sung two beautiful anthems. Readings were delivered by the Year 8 Prefects and the ‘Last Post’ played by Warrant Officer William Lloyd (St Giles, Upper Sixth) from the Senior School. The two minute silence was impeccably observed, and a ‘guard of honour’ by the Colour Party and Year 9 Cadets, former Langley Prep School pupils, concluded a very special occasion.
On Sunday 11th November, our Senior School Remembrance Service took place in our very own Chapel at our Loddon campus, with the service led by Headmaster Mr Cooke. The Langley CCF were superb in their roles, and pupils also read out the names of the ‘old boys’ from Langley who served. After the service, everyone congregated in the Sixth Form Centre to close a proceedings on an important day.
Our cadets were then involved on Monday 12th November in the service at the War Memorial Cottages in Mousehold, Norwich. Ours is a long-standing involvement and, to mark the most recent milestone, Warrant Officer William Lloyd received a presentation from the Norfolk Regiment Association for playing the bugle at the service for the last five years. All our cadets enjoyed meeting and mingling with veterans after the special event.
