In an inspiring tale of ambition and exploration, Icenian Lucia Gamble has taken her educational journey to new heights by participating in the prestigious ESU Secondary School Exchange scholarship programme. This has provided the opportunity to study in America, marking a significant milestone in her academic and personal development.
The ESU (English-Speaking Union) Secondary School Exchange is renowned for fostering cultural exchange and understanding among younger generations. This experience is not just about academics; it’s about immersing into a different culture, forming lasting connections, and broadening horizons. For Lucia, a former Nelson Scholar, the selection for this programme was both a dream come true and a testament to her hard work.
In her first letter since beginning her time as an ESU Scholar, she wrote that ‘life in Pennsylvania has been nothing short of incredible! [Her] initial fears about moving abroad and navigating this new lifestyle disappeared from the moment [she] stepped foot onto campus at Mercersburg Academy. A warm and supportive community greeted [her] from the start and [she] quickly learnt that people are obsessed with the British accent.’
