This week, our Prep School Year 5 group travelled to the Boughton Estate in Northamptonshire to immerse themselves in the bushcraft way of life. On Monday, there was great excitement as they departed, and this continued with our arrival at the Bushcraft Company.
Pupils were greeted by the team of Bill, Leif and Nina, who led them on a trek to the campsite (the deepest part of the woods), Red Cedars. The children struck up an immediate rapport with the camp leaders, which continued throughout the week and made for such a lovely experience all around.
The children were able to immerse themselves in a variety of activities, with the most amusing highlight being Bill’s ‘cooking demo’ where he prepared a salmon in front of our awe-struck pupils. Credit to John R, who took on the challenge of eating the eyeball of the fish. Very brave indeed!
However, the real highlight of the trip for both the Bushcraft staff and us was the campfire camaraderie displayed by the children throughout.
It was a real pleasure to take the children on this trip, and they behaved superbly and gave a good account of what they and the school are about. The Bushcraft staff genuinely enjoyed leading the group.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Thornett, Mrs Symon and Ms Dawson for all their help on this trip.
