In a spectacular display of talent and teamwork, Langley Prep School proudly presented “Mary Poppins Jr.” last week, captivating audiences with the magic of the beloved Disney classic.
Under the direction of Miss Nash, Mr. Green and other members of the Langley Community, the production arose from months of dedicated rehearsals that began last July. With nearly 50 children from years 6 to 8 participating, the excitement and enthusiasm were clear both on and off the stage.
Children prepared an audition song and performed this, alongside a piece of script from the show, to help inform casting decisions. For many cast members, this was their first time taking part in a show, making their accomplishments even more commendable. The children showed immense dedication as they navigated the challenges of learning songs, dance routines, and their lines.
There were hurdles to overcome, especially when transitioning from the familiar Prep School site to the larger Alston Centre at the Senior School, where they had only one day to adapt to the new space. The challenges of performing with professional-grade equipment, including radio microphones and ample staging, were tackled with maturity and confidence.
This production was a true team effort, with Miss Nash and Mr. Green co-directing, and Mrs. Chamberlin assisting with choreography. The entire staff contributed to creating captivating props and scenery, enhancing the audience’s immersion in the story.
As Miss Nash concludes her tenure at Langley Prep, she expressed her immense pride in every cast member’s outstanding performance. This production was not only a celebration of talent and dedication but also a testament to the vibrant community at Langley Prep School, where the spirit of the arts continues to thrive.
