This week, Langley Pre-prep had the pleasure of hosting the Bear Ear Clinic for an engaging and educational classroom visit focused on deafness and sign language.
The initiative, known as ‘Toy Like Me’, is an inspiring art and play non-profit organization that encourages meaningful discussions about disability among children. Their mission is to start playful conversations with children about disability to boost self-esteem and grow open minds
During the visit, our pupils were invited to bring their own teddy bears to class. They participated in an imaginative roleplay activity where ‘the bear audiologist’ conducted hearing tests and presented each bear with a complimentary pair of toy hearing aids.
Afterwards, the session leaders introduced them to basic sign language vocabulary and spoke about how we can be deaf-aware.
We are grateful to the Bear Ear Clinic for providing a bear-y special experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our pupils. By educating both deaf children and their hearing peers, this initiative plays a vital role in creating inclusive environments for all.
