Shortlisted for ‘Best Use of Technology’ in the TES school awards

28th April 2023

We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Best Use of Technology award in the TES school awards 2023.

The TES Awards recognise and celebrate the most outstanding schools from the UK state and independent sectors.

Over the past two years, Langley School has embarked upon a digital revolution with significant investment in our digital provision for both staff and pupils. We are overjoyed to be recognised for the work we have put into ensuring our school is sector-leading in this field.

Digital innovation is a key part of the provision at Langley. We have upgraded our whole system, boosted the Wi-Fi, brought in new processes and provided devices Microsoft Surface – Pro 3 for each pupil, from Year 3 to the Sixth Form. This means that there is seamless transition between the age groups and the two school sites.

Headmaster of Langley School, Jon Perriss, said “This is a fantastic achievement and one that we can be very proud of. This recognition is down to the hard work of so many people; it is the collective and collegiate ‘buy in’ from the school community that makes this happen. The almost unbelievable transformation of our digital provision over the past few years, for staff and pupils, has not been straightforward, but clearly signals the positive progression and development of the school.”

Director of Digital Services, Sam Youngs, highlighted that “staff are encouraged to try new things with technology, without the worry that something might go wrong or not to plan. This ultimately leads to more confidence and encourages them to try new things with technology more often. We are delighted that a number of staff have also recently been awarded the very exclusive award of Microsoft Innovative Education Expert.”

The panel of awards judges include school leaders, experts and education researchers. Winners will be announced on Friday 23rd June at an Awards Dinner.

We use technology in a myriad of ways across subjects, Mr Wheeler, Head of Athletic Development and Rugby Coach, added that ‘We use Veo cameras to record sports fixtures and provide video analysis to our students. We have 21 GPS units we use across our sport scholars to provide feedback on their performances and monitor their work loads.’

Mrs Brandy, Physics Teacher stated ‘We use a website called ‘PHET’ which creates simulations of physics phenomena. It allows students to use these simulations at their own pace in class and also have access to them at home from their devices which really helps some students engage more with the physics.’
