Year 6 Pupils Enjoy Educational Visit to Poplar Farm

In June, our Year 6 pupils from Langley Prep School enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to Poplar Farm, where they gained a fascinating insight into life on a modern working farm.

Throughout the day, pupils learned about crop farming and the many stages involved in growing and harvesting food. Philip, the farm’s agronomist, led some excellent discussions about crop cycles, explaining how farmers carefully plan what they grow and why they often try different approaches from year to year to maintain healthy and productive crops.

One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the impressive machinery used on the farm. Pupils discovered how modern equipment helps farmers work more efficiently and effectively, giving them a greater appreciation of the hard work involved in producing the food we eat every day. The opportunity to get up close to high-tech machinery, including the SAM sprayer and the Claas combine harvester, was particularly exciting. Pupils were fascinated by the advanced science, engineering and technology that play such an important role in modern farming.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr and Mrs Grady for so warmly welcoming us to Poplar Farm and for sharing their knowledge and experience. We are also extremely grateful to their farming advisors, Dan, Ellie, Philip and Richard, who generously answered pupils’ questions and helped deepen their understanding of farming and food production.

The visit was both enjoyable and informative, providing pupils with valuable knowledge about the importance of agriculture in our society. Living in Norfolk, at the heart of East Anglia’s rich farming landscape, made the experience especially relevant and meaningful. It was a wonderful day of learning that will certainly stay with our Year 6 pupils for a long time.
