Supporting military families

Supporting military families, at home and away

We know that forces life brings adventure and opportunity, but we also know from experience that it can bring challenges. One of the greatest challenges for families is ensuring that children are properly supported during their school years. Frequent moves, overseas postings, and the uncertainty of new deployments can make it difficult to give your child the continuity of care and consistency that children need if they are to thrive. Boarding can provide the stability they need –and the peace of mind you deserve.

Stability when life changes

While your posting may change, your child’s world doesn’t have to. Boarding provides a safe and homely environment where they can build lasting friendships, enjoy a busy but balanced routine, and focus on learning. They will benefit from all the opportunities that boarding school provides, and at Langley we are proud of our tight-knit community in boarding. The bonds formed among our boarders are strong; the children are there for each other during the inevitable stresses of teenage life, and the boarding team are a constant and supportive presence in their lives.

A school that gets it

We have a flourishing CCF contingent and excellent and active links with the Ministry of Defence. We have decades of experience in hosting children of active service families, and your child will be brought under the wing of our experienced and caring staff. We pride ourselves in working closely with families to make sure every pupil feels settled, supported, and part of something special. We set great store by our communications channels with families, ensuring that any worries from parents are dealt with promptly, and encouraging children to keep in touch with their families.

Help with practicalities

We know that finances and logistics matter. Our Admissions team can guide you through the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) and other funding options, making the process as straightforward as possible. Feel free to get in touch to discuss further.

More than just school

Boarding isn’t just about lessons — it’s about giving your child opportunities to grow. Whether it’s sport, music, outdoor pursuits, or leadership, they’ll discover new passions, build confidence, and learn independence that will stay with them for life.
If your child is keen to get stuck into CCF or the Duke of Edinburgh Award, we have a thriving contingent with Army, Navy and RAF sections. We also offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award at all levels. Pupils taking part in both of these co-curricular activities will have the opportunity to take part in an annual week-long residential and outdoor training in Adventure Camp in Dartmoor. The CCF contingent represents the school at important events such as Armistace Day and Services Day. Section-specific courses such as fire-fighting and rifle shooting are also offered.

Pastoral care

We know there are unique circumstances that impact military families. Our Pastoral team is involved from the start; getting to know your child and their needs and ensuring colleagues are aware and ready to provide the support required. They work hand-in-hand with our Safeguarding team and our Boarding team, making sure that our care is individualised.
