Last week, Langley Prep School proudly celebrated Neurodiversity Week, an initiative designed to promote understanding and acceptance of the diverse range of neurological conditions.
They started the week with a heartfelt assembly led by Samantha Baxendale, our dedicated SENDCo lead. She emphasized the unique strengths and challenges that each individual brings to our community and highlighted the importance of supporting one another. A key takeaway was the simple yet powerful message: kindness can truly make a difference in someone’s day.
Throughout the week, pupils engaged in various activities aimed at deepening their understanding of neurodiversity and fostering an environment of acceptance. On Tuesday, during tutor time, pupils participated in unique exercises designed to appreciate the individuality of their classmates and to embrace the diversity within our school community.
Wednesday was particularly exciting, as we welcomed professionals from Norwich City Football Club. Players, ex-players, and staff held Q&A sessions with our Prep and Pre-Prep students, sharing insights and experiences related to neurodiversity. We welcomed Rossi Jarvis, a former player and current player care manager and Joe Shulberg, the current Academy Manager, who shared his experiences growing up around ADHD and how it has shaped his understanding and empathy towards players with neurodiversity. Additionally, Takudzwa, a current under-18 player spoke about his journey with dyslexia, as did Stuart Webber the previous Sporting Director at the football club.
Neurodiversity Week truly underscored the importance of embracing all individuals for who they are. Together, we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and understood.
