Icenian Kamil Szumilas FI.jpegFirstly Kamil, at Langley did you know what career path you wanted to follow?

Yes, I knew I wanted to become a lawyer.

During your time here, which co-curricular activities were you involved in, and have they been useful within your career and in terms of transferable skills?

I was involved in Debating, Stage band, Dixie band, Cabaret, Function band, Norfolk County Symphonic Wind Band, Pulse Dance Company, SLN MUN, Senior Maths Challenge and I was a House Captain. Yes, they helped me with gaining more confidence.

What did you do at university?

I got a LL.B. in Business Law (first class) at De Montfort University in Leicester and an LL.M. in International Civil and Commercial Law (cum laude) at Leiden University.

Did your time at Langley help inform your career choices, and how did you then start your career?

Yes. I spent all summer holidays doing various internships, which helped me with getting the position of a junior associate at Dentons in Warsaw, Poland.

Where are you now in your career and what have been the highlights?

Since September 2019, I have been working as a junior associate at Dentons in Warsaw. This experience has allowed me to develop as a lawyer as I have had a chance to work on international transactions.

What is your advice to students currently considering A Levels and their career choices?

Don’t worry, it will all work out in the future. Embrace every opportunity and keep your plans flexible. Stay positive and get involved in the school’s life.
