We are delighted to announce that Langley Prep School is rolling out the “Junior Duke Programme” in Lent term. We already run The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) at the Senior School, so it was a natural extension to our offering to be able to introduce children at Langley Prep to a programme based on the principles of the DofE scheme.
The ‘Junior Duke Programme’ is a nationally recognised initiative that encourages independence, resilience and practical life skills through a series of age-appropriate challenges.
Delivery of the programme will start during the Lent Term. The award comprises 10 levels, each with a broad variety of challenges that can be tackled. These vary from tasks such as cooking simple meals and learning basic first aid to reading maps and undertaking service to the broader community.
Both the DofE and the Junior Duke programmes share the same ethos: the importance of encouraging a sense of belonging, resilience, and practical life skills through structured challenges. The challenges at different levels of the Award are only part of the objective of the scheme; broader and arguably more impactful learnings relate to confidence, resilience, personal responsibility and leadership ability. This foundational experience creates a natural progression into the DofE programme in senior school, where pupils take on more advanced challenges in volunteering, physical activity, skill development, and expeditions.
We are excited to welcome our pupils to the new programme and are looking forward to seeing their progress across the challenges.
