Yesterday our Prep School Year 6 group had the opportunity to visit Mountfitchet Castle near Stansted in Essex. It is a unique setting for a trip as it is fully restored Norman Motte and Bailey Castle. The owners of the site have been incredibly considerate in recreating an authentic Norman experience for pupils. This tied in with their learning in class about the ways in which William the Conqueror sought to control England once King.
After some initial rain the sun soon came out and the pupils set about investigating the site and what life would have been like for the different types of people living in a settlement such a Mountfitchet. They were able to see the Baron’s table and bedroom, explore the battlements and see what became of those sentenced to the Hell Hole.
The pupils approached the trip in exactly the right way and showed a great deal of interest, it really complimented their learning well and I hope they took a lot away from the day.
Many thanks to Mr Sowry, Mrs Durrant and Ms. Dawson for attending and making the trip possible for the pupils.
