This week, our Year 5 students had an exciting opportunity to explore Norwich Castle, diving deep into the fascinating worlds of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings! This visit directly ties into their current History curriculum, enhancing their understanding of this captivating historical period.
Throughout the day, the pupils engaged enthusiastically with the activity leaders, showcasing their curiosity and eagerness to learn. They encountered characters who brought history to life. First, they met Freyja, a Viking trader, who shared insights into the value of goods and the maritime lifestyle of her people. Next, they met Edmund, a legendary Anglo-Saxon storyteller, who enchanted them with tales of Thurweald and the epic journey of a village across the sea to ‘Angleland’. Finally, they connected with Sophie, an archaeologist, who guided them in understanding the significance of discovering and studying artefacts from the past.
In addition to these immersive experiences, the pupils indulged their creative sides by crafting their very own Anglo-Saxon brooches, allowing them to connect with history on a hands-on level.
Overall, the trip was not only enjoyable but also invaluable to their ongoing studies, reinforcing what they have learned in class.
A special thank you to Mr. Thornett, Mr. Edwards, and Ms. Dawson for their support, as well as the wonderful Langley Prep kitchen staff for providing a delicious lunch that fueled their adventures!
