Part of our responsibility as educators is to ensure our pupils are equipped for the world that they will eventually transition into. At Langley Senior School, Business is consistently one of the most popular elective subjects, and we believe it is good for our older Prep pupils to be introduced to the worlds of business and innovation. Many of our pupils have wonderful, creative imaginations across all curriculum areas, from music and art to STEM and technology.
Entrepreneurship isn’t just about starting a business. It’s about learning to spot opportunities, take initiative, solve problems, and bounce back when things don’t go to plan. And those are skills every young person will need, whether they go on to become a CEO, an artist, an inventor or a teacher.
The world of work is changing faster than ever. Jobs that existed 20 years ago are disappearing, while new ones are just being invented. Employers are no longer just looking for good grades; they want adaptability, creativity, teamwork, and resilience. Emotional intelligence is one of the top criteria that employers look for, and this programme will teach young people the importance of self-awareness and working as part of a team to deliver an agreed outcome. The benefits are significant; pupils exposed to enterprise education in the UK are between 3 to 6 times more likely to start their own business in the future (British Council research, 2020). 80% of pupils who have taken part in enterprise education agree that they are better prepared for the world of work (British Council research, 2020).
Armed with this knowledge, we are excited to be introducing the Young Entrepreneurs Academy at Langley Prep this term. Through interactive workshops and real-world projects, our Year 7 and 8 pupils will have the opportunity to learn how to develop ideas, create business plans, understand marketing strategies, and manage finances. This programme nurtures creativity, problem-solving, and leadership skills, empowering pupils to think like entrepreneurs and prepare for future challenges in an ever-changing economy.
The aim is to demystify business, and to encourage pupils to engage with a broad range of materials, challenges and topics that spark the imagination. The programme is supported by some amazing organisations such as The King’s Trust and UCL School of Management. The Academy has partnered with many companies known for their innovation and business success, such as Gü, Pan-African Tech Foundation, Lola’s Cupcakes and KEA Consultants.
We are looking forward to sharing stories about our leaders of the future!
