Last week, Year 8 pupils from Langley Senior and Prep had the opportunity to participate in a specially organized Careers Fayre as part of National Careers Week, an annual celebration of careers guidance in education across the UK. This event was designed to equip students with essential skills and insights for their future careers, and it was a tremendous success.
The day included two engaging workshops, during which pupils stepped into the roles of both employees and hiring managers. These interactive sessions aimed to develop their job application skills, helping them understand what employers look for and how to present themselves effectively in the job market. By simulating real-life scenarios, the pupils gained practical experience that will undoubtedly benefit them as they begin their journey into the world of work.
In the afternoon, the pupils had the privilege of meeting various professionals from diverse fields. Experts such as:
Dr Harriet Mark (NHS, supporting the elderly)
Adam Barker (Project Manager)
Thomas Skinner (Lawyer)
Belinda Papathanasiou (Midwife)
James Sutcliffe (Music Producer)
Stuart McCance (Dentist)
Elaine Hedges (Construction Surveyor)
Shared their experiences and insights. This unique opportunity allowed pupils to ask questions and gain firsthand knowledge about different careers, fostering their curiosity and encouraging them to explore paths they may not have previously considered.
Overall, the Careers Fayre was a valuable experience for Year 8 students. Not only did it inspire them to think critically about their future career choices, but it also helped them build important skills and confidence that will serve them well in their academic and professional journeys.
