Preparing for A-Level results

14th August 2023

Preparing for A-level results day can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Here are some steps to help you get ready:

Stay Calm and Positive: It’s natural to feel anxious, but try to stay calm and positive. Remember that A-level results are just one step in your journey, and there are various paths to success.

Plan Your Day: Results are available from the Alston Centre between 8am and 9.30am. Any pupils who are not available to collect them on this day and have informed us in advance of results day will receive an email with their results. The results will then be published on my school portal at 2pm.

Have a Support System: Share your feelings and concerns with friends, family, or teachers. Having a support system can help you cope with the emotions of results day.

Understand UCAS and Clearing: If you applied to university, familiarize yourself with the UCAS website and the Clearing process. Clearing allows you to explore available university places if you haven’t received the expected offers.

Prepare for University: If you’re going to university, make sure you have the necessary information about enrolment, accommodation, and any other preparations.

Be Prepared for All Outcomes: While you may hope for the best, be prepared for different results. Have a plan in place for what to do if your results are not as expected.

Don’t compare: Don’t feel pressured to compare yourself and your results with others. Try not to use social media to compare yourself and think before you post. If things go well, be proud and celebrate but be mindful that some of your friends might not be so happy. If your results are not what you’d hoped for, don’t despair and don’t delay, seek advice on results day from your teachers, they are here to help.

Know the Appeals Process: If you believe there has been an error in your results, find out about the appeals process and any deadlines for requesting a re-mark.

Explore Alternative Paths: If your A-level results are not what you expected, don’t worry. There are many alternative paths to achieve your goals, such as apprenticeships, vocational courses, gap years, or work opportunities.

Celebrate Achievements: Regardless of the results, acknowledge and celebrate your hard work and dedication throughout your A-level studies.

Seek Career Advice: If you’re unsure about your career options, seek advice from teachers, career advisors, or professionals in your areas of interest.

Remember that A-level results day marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life. No matter the outcome, there are numerous opportunities and paths to success. Stay positive, keep an open mind, and be ready to embrace the next stage of your journey. Good luck!
